Well friends, it happened. Someone took a piece of advice that she read here on this blog and used it on me. I, frugalstiner, was frugalstinered (yes, its a verb!). I met friends for lunch at a swanky resturant and one of my friends commented that she forgot her wallet at home. I offered to buy her lunch and after I paid, she laughed that she had read to do that on this blog. I was floored! I couldn't believe it. I paused for a moment, considering taking away the food I had just handed to her, telling her she can't out frugal the pro but then I was so overcome with pride that someone had taken advice from this blog and used it, that I couldn't be mad. Its why I created this blog...to make this world a more frugal place for everyone!
Today is the last day of January which means tomorrow starts Frugal February....look for even more tips this month on how to save money and stay cool!

2012... The year of frugal
Well, it's the new year, and that means a new blog post about saving money...
Dinner at a friend's: This is a good one. I will often invite myself over to my friends' house to have dinner... this ensures that you can avoid buying groceries, going out, or spending any money on refreshments.
Storing up unused napkins from restaurants: Have you ever noticed how generous waiters are with napkins at most chain restaurants? Well, I can personally attest to the fact that most wait staff doesn't keep track of how many napkins you have sneaked into your purse... and guess what... napkins and paper products are expensive. These pilfered napkins can be used as kleenex, if they are soft enough, toilet paper, or simply napkins!
Oh yeah... in 2012 you can look for a few more contributors to the frugalstiner brain trust. So keep your eyes posted for more frugal tips.

Best Possible Way to Be Frugal
I know, I know...a title like that just pulls you in! What could possibly be the BEST way to be frugal?
Simple. Lose your wallet. Yep, lose your wallet and be sure that along with your license, that your credit card, debit card and some cash is in there. You can't spend money if you don't have the means to do so! You can't use your credit card when its not there. You can't get cash from the ATM without your debit card. And you can't withdraw cash from the bank without an ID. Talk about saving money!
I myself have been stuck in this predicament for the past few days and its encouraging to see my bank account stand still. Its a frugal fanatic's dream come true! Its also a great and legit excuse to borrow money from parental units. :)
Be smart, be frugal. Stay classy!

Dessert...the frugal way!
Who doesn't love going out for dessert?! The only downside is that desserts can cost at least $5 and who has that kind of money for a bunch of sugar?! I have the solution my friends...one that is both reasonably priced and delicious. Applebees has a bite sized brownie dessert for $1....thats right, $1! How can you beat that? You could even get a couple and still spend less than the average cost of dessert. Its filling, it looks great and the price is right. Its a beautiful deal, so get yourself over to Applebees and enjoy!

How to Stay Frugal when Purchasing a New outfit...
Feeling like you need a new outfit, but don't want to spend the big bucks on something nice. I just bring a relative or rich friend. Try something on and say how much you love it. Then tell them you can't afford it. They will feel bad for you a purchase it for you. Now the real trick is to let them pick the outfit out, something that they like, then they will be more likely to chip in.

When I go out with my friends to Applebees, I always run off to 'use the bathroom' when the check comes, I peek out until I see it is paid for... and then I start taking out my card when I get back. Everyone just says: "oh frugal don't worry, it's all set" AND I'M in the CLEAR!

How to Save Money When the Gas Prices are Through the Roof!
Today I paid $3.17 a gallon for gas. Outrageous right?!
What do you do when gas prices are so high that you can't afford to drive anywhere? You stay home. There are a plethora of illnesses going around. You catch one and then are forced to stay home from work, therefore you save gas money. Its genius really. If you can get past the cough, being unable to stay awake and feeling all around crappy, its really a positive. :) I was home the past two and a half days saving myself the 16 minute drive to work and at least 1/4 tank of gas. Win Win.
